Drying Equipment

Valentine operates both spray drying and drum drying at production scale, along with pilot-scale equipment for feasibility work and process development.

Spray Drying

We operate two production spray dryers — a 7-foot-diameter unit and a 28-foot-diameter unit — alongside a 3-foot pilot spray dryer used for sample batches and feasibility trials. Our equipment is capable of tight particle size distribution (PSD) control across a range of chemistries and feedstock types.

  • Production units: 7-ft diameter and 28-ft diameter
  • Pilot unit: 3-ft diameter — available for trials and heat-sensitive or first-run materials before production commitment
  • Particle size: Approximately 20–100 microns, material-dependent
  • Total spray drying capacity: Exceeds 50,000 lbs/day liquid feed
  • Minimum trial batch: 5 gallons or less at pilot scale; approximately 5–10 totes at production scale

Drum Drying

We operate five dual chrome drum dryers, all double-drum configuration.

  • Units: 5 dual chrome drum dryers
  • Drum dimensions: Approximately 5 ft diameter × 12 ft length, with a pond on top
  • Surface temperature: Up to 300°F, heated with medium-pressure steam
  • Process: Continuous, atmospheric — not vacuum-operated
  • Pilot units: Available for drum drying trials
  • Total drum drying capacity: Exceeds 200,000 lbs/day liquid feed
  • Minimum trial batch: 5 gallons or less at pilot scale

Polymer Reaction Equipment

Valentine operates four 3,000-gallon stainless steel reactors, giving us 12,000 gallons of total reactor volume. These units were built for polymerization reactions and support a range of related chemistries. They are equipped for vacuum operation, heating and cooling, and inert atmosphere conditions.

  • Reactors: 4 × 3,000-gallon stainless steel
  • Total volume: 12,000 gallons; practical batch maximum approximately 8,000–10,000 gallons
  • Design features: Dimple-jacketed; steam heat and water cool; full vacuum capable; overhead condensers; agitation; N₂ purge; air sparge; sample ports
  • Operating temperature: Typically 180–200°F under atmospheric conditions
  • Additional capacity: Two larger jacketed tanks on site (10,000 gal and 13,000 gal) available for applicable projects
  • Pilot reactor: 1–5 gallon pilot-scale reactor for chemistry development and feasibility work
  • Track record: Nearly 100 million lbs of polymer produced to date

Blending & Size Reduction

Our blending capability covers liquid-liquid and liquid-powder blending, with heat and cool capability and internal spray nozzles for saturation-type applications. Size reduction is handled through multiple hammer mills with mesh-controlled grinding, allowing us to target specific particle size outputs.

  • Blending: Liquid-liquid and liquid-powder; heat/cool capable
  • Spray saturation: Internal spray nozzles available for liquid-into-powder saturation
  • Size reduction: Multiple hammer mills with mesh-controlled grinding
  • Packaging formats from blending: Bags, supersacks, drums, totes, and bulk — see Packaging section below

Packaging

We package dry product in a range of bag and bulk formats and fill liquid product into drums, totes, and bulk trucks. Our packaging operation is set up to accommodate non-standard formats and customer-specific requirements — if you need something outside the options listed below, contact us to discuss.

Dry product:

  • 25 kg (50 lb) bags
  • Supersacks
  • Fiber drums
  • Custom bag sizes and heat-sealed formats available on request

Liquid product:

  • 55-gallon drums
  • Totes
  • Bulk trucks

Private-label and white-label packaging is available. Customer labels are applied as part of the fill and finish process.

If your product requires a format not listed here, contact us — we can discuss what's feasible before you commit.

Warehousing & Storage

Valentine operates 80,000 sq ft of warehouse space in Lockport, Louisiana, including 5,000 sq ft of climate-controlled storage maintained at approximately 70°F. Liquid raw materials and in-process inventory are held in stainless steel tanks with bulk capacity for 50+ truckloads. Heated liquid storage is available for materials requiring elevated temperatures.

  • Total warehouse: 80,000 sq ft
  • Climate-controlled storage: 5,000 sq ft at approximately 70°F
  • Bulk liquid storage: Multiple truckload capacity; stainless steel tanks with agitation available
  • Heated liquid storage: Available for temperature-sensitive liquid materials
  • Dry product storage: Bags and supersacks stored in the main warehouse

Logistics access:

  • Truck dock on site; customers coordinate inbound and outbound scheduling
  • Transloader access within a few miles for rail-originating inbound shipments

Pilot & Lab

Valentine maintains on-site pilot and lab capability across all core service areas — reaction, spray drying, drum drying, and blending. This infrastructure supports feasibility assessments, process development, and scale-up trials before committing to full production.

For teams evaluating a new drying method or scaling a formulation for the first time, our development lab and adjacent QC capability allow us to work through process questions at the bench before they become production problems.

Lab and QC capabilities include:

  • Moisture analysis
  • Viscosity measurement
  • Particle size analysis (mesh-based)
  • Bulk density testing
  • Physical appearance / in-process inspection
  • Certificate of Analysis (COA) issued on all production runs, against customer-supplied specifications
  • Access to third-party analytical labs in Louisiana for advanced testing requirements

In-process checks run at minimum every hour during production.
